Fishing Reports

The Report For: 7/2/2009
General Comments | Go where you want to go today and odds are you'll get good fishing. We have good water, great hatches, and rising fish any direction you head right now.
We're going to continue to see bright sun and some heat out there for at least a couple more days. The good news is that the hatches right now are trumping the weather.
We are seeing a variety of summer stoneflies out there from yellow and green sallies to giant goldens and sizes between. For mayflies there are lots of pale duns out now as well as green drakes. We've also been seeing excellent caddis hatches this summer.
|
BitterrootRiver Flows | | The switch got turned on up the Bitterroot this week. The river has dropped into a comfortable level and the hatches are just going off. Hatches include PMDs, Drakes, Goldens, yellow and green Sallies with caddis added in the evening. The prolific medium sized Bitteroot Golden Stonefly hatch is starting to swing in the afternoon. The eveving spinner fall is epic right now and is making for fun action to dark.

BlackfootRiver Flow Near Bonner | | | Its starting to feel like typical good summer fishing up here. You'll move a bunch of fish and beeter be ready when you get your shots at the occasional big one. The Blackfoot continues to offer a solid option. Its been getting plenty of pressure but the fishing has been holding up with the best dry fly fishing around the hatches of Goldens and Green Drakes in the afternoon. Caddis will make an impact late. |
Clark ForkRiver Flows | | The Clark Fork is ripe from the upper through the lower. Its dropping like a rock down low and clarity is good. The hatches are out and fish are starting to look up. The Clark Fork is definitely a little more of a gamble right now than its neighbors but the rewards can be big and there is much less pressure right now.
Hatches include giant goldens, pale duns, and caddis.
|
MissouriRiver Flows | | | You should see flows start to cut back again out of Holter soon. In the meantime the nymphing is strong through the whole river. Dry fly fishing is there in spots. Caddis, PMDs, terrestrials, some Sallies, maybe drakes down low. |
Rock CreekRiver Flow Near Clinton | | | Wade anglers, its all yours. The fishing has been fantastic top to bottem. A variety of goldens and sallies out there from size 6 to 12. Lots of caddis. PMDs and drakes too. |
