Fishing Reports

The Report For: 10/7/2008
General Comments | 10/3: Back to more seasonable temps and weather for the foreseeable future. Fall mayfly fishing is definitely the name of the game right now with lots of options for good fishing out there.
We are into one of the best fall fishing seasons in the last several years. We are going to have good dry fly fishing right into November. If you haven't been out lately, its not a season to miss.

BitterrootRiver Flows | | | 10/3: Good stuff out there. The Trico hatch has persisted longer and stronger than we have seen in years. We are seeing pods of sippers on spinners all the way through the afternoon on the lower river right now. The clouds and rain this weekend should have the baetis out in droves and should make for some more forgiving fishing than we have been seeing in the bright sun. Mahoganies should be out as well and give you a slightly larger bug to work with when you are seeing them on the water. The purple haze has been tough to beat as a generic mayfly pattern lately. We've also still been able to take the occasional good fish on bigger stuff like hoppers, attractors and october caddis. Dragging a streamer in the morning or nymphing the riffles can give you some action before the hatch. |
BlackfootRiver Flow Near Bonner | | | 10/3: You are going to see things start to slow down on the Blackfoot considerably when we get into the colder nights on tap next week. The afternoon fishing will continue to offer the occasional baetis sipper and some october caddis action. Streamer fishing on this river will give you a shot at some of the giants you haven't seen since the early summer. |
Clark ForkRiver Flows | | 10/3: Its tough to beat the Clark Fork this time of year for hunting heads. Pods of risers should be up sipping from mid-day on with Baetis, Mahoganies, and some Trico activity here and there. Good fishing the length of the river right now.
|
MissouriRiver Flows | | | 10/3: We should see the baetis start to kick in with the real fall weather on tap over the next week. Look for cloudy days minus the wind to produce the best dry fly activity. Nymphs and streamers should keep you bent when you're not into the risers. |
Rock CreekRiver Flow Near Clinton | | | 10/3: Tough to beat for a good wade fishing option right now. Lots of healthy fish out there. Some holes are just plain stacked up. Look for bigger browns to be moving up the river right now. Streamers and nymphs will produce all day. Mayflies in the afternoon. |
