Missoula Fishing Report 6/19

Bitterroot

The Root has been giving up some good fishing in the mid to upper stretches. We have been seeing lots of Golden Stones and Sallies with some Green Drakes and PMDs coming off as well. Our rig of choice has been a Golden Stone dry with a nymph dropper in the morning and switching up to straight dries in the afternoon. For flies try The Water Walker, Bullethead Golden Stone, True Golden Stones, PK Golden Stone, Carnige Green Drake, Victory Drake, Purple Haze and your favorite PMD pattern.

Blackfoot

The Foot continues to give up great dry fly fishing through the rain and sun. The Salmonflies are starting to dwindle but can still be found in the upper stretches. Throwing a Golden Stone has been the go to for the whole river. Streamer fishing has been pulling out some hogs as well. For flies try the Water Walker, it is quickly taking the place of the chubby chernobyl, True Golden Stones, PK Golden Stone, Carnige Green Drake, Victory Drake, Purple Haze and your favorite PMD pattern.

Clark Fork

The Clark has gone from good to great in the past week. We have been having some spectacular days from the lower river all the way up to Warm Spring. The town section has also been a good option through out the afternoon. Much like the rest of the rivers we have seen plenty of Goldens, Sallies, Green Drakes and PMDs. For flies try The Water Walker, Bullethead Golden Stone, True Golden Stones, PK Golden Stone, Carnige Green Drake, Victory Drake, Purple Haze and your favorite PMD pattern.

Rock Creek

What can I say about a creek that rarely fishes poorly. Well, just go because this is the time of year when catching 50 to 100 fish on dries is within reach. Although the Salmon Flies have pretty much tapered off, the Golden Stones have been out in full force in the sun and Green Drakes in the clouds. The creek is getting to the flows where it is becoming easier and easier for the wade fisherman. For flies, just about anything that looks like a Golden Stone will get sipped up and Mayfly attractor patterns such as Purple Haze or Parachute adams.
