Missoula Fishing Report
August 9th
Hoppers, hoppers, hoppers. All three rivers have been mainly terrestrial game, especially after about 10 am. Tricos are hatching on the Bitterroot and Clark Fork, depending on the day. Hoot Owl restrictions are still being enforced, which now includes the North Fork of the Blackfoot and all Blackfoot tributaries. This week is supposed to heat up again, so be prepared.
Zach and Jill went up the hill to find some good water. Zach rowed down and earned his crown, And Jill came slaying fishies happily-ever-after.
Blackfoot: Fish are in the fast water or the deep slots. Run the hopper through the heavy chop because the big fish will eat in the faster water. Throw a hopper. Elk hair caddis, purple haze, parachute adams, small droppers, dark streamers.
Bitterroot: Ask Stan if you can find him….
Clark Fork: Trico fish are sitting in the frog water and the subtle back currents. Hopper fish in the afternoons are sitting in the fast riffles. Tricos, hoppers, and terrestrial game. Most any hopper will do you good right now.
Rock Creek: Elk hair caddis, nocturnal goldens, hoppers, ants, beetles, a few tricos, and a few leftover spruce moths. Don’t leave your bugger box in the truck.
