Blackfoot River Fishing Report

The Blackfoot River is one of the most iconic and scenic fisheries in western Montana, offering a wide range of fly fishing opportunities throughout the year. Known for its freestone character, the Blackfoot can see changing conditions depending on flows, weather, and seasonal insect activity, making it important to stay current with how the river is fishing.

This Blackfoot River fly fishing report is updated regularly by our guides and staff to reflect current conditions, hatches, and techniques that are producing fish. Whether you're planning a trip in the coming days or just checking in on river conditions, this report will help you understand what to expect on the water.

How's the Fishing?: 3/5

The Blackfoot river fly fishing has been difficult recently with the rising flows and off color water. The river is also running pretty cold. Give it another week to clear up and the fishing should improve. Don't expect much in terms of dry fly fishing in the next few weeks though.

The streamer fishing and nymphing can be good this time of year by focusing on deep, slow inside seams.

What Hatches are Going?

Nemoura, Capnia, Midge

How's it going to be in a couple weeks?

The warmer weather coming should improve the fishing on the Blackfoot river. Decent hatches of BWO and March Browns should show up, but don't expect much in terms of Skwala hatches.
