The creek is flowing 250 cfs right now which is right at the norm for this time of year. Temps have peaked below 65 for almost a week. There are no restrictions on Rock Creek and it is a great option for wade anglers right now.
Tricos are hatching right now. On Rock Creek, these do not produce the pods of fish like they do on the Bitterroot and the Clark Fork. They will bring fish up in the flats and slicks. You don't have to be as pattern specific as you do on the larger rivers. Often a #14 or #16 parachute on a dead drift will pick up the trico feeders. Olives and a few remaining rusty spinners are also bringing fish to the surface.
Terrestrials have been providing the best dry fly action on the Creek. Look for a shaded bank over thigh-deep water to run your ants, beetles, and hoppers. It is not uncommon to have fish rise in heavy chop. It is these banks, not the slicks and pools, that are providing larger fish.
Streamer fishing has been good, especially in the early morning. Bright stuff on cloudy days and more muted patterns on the bright days. Again, heavier water has been producing the larger fish. Vary your retrieve rate and angles until you find what they are looking for.
