Rock Creek is one of the most celebrated wild trout streams in Montana, flowing into the Clark Fork River about 20 miles east of Missoula. Known for its exceptional hatches and healthy population of wild cutthroat and rainbow trout, Rock Creek offers some of the best dry fly fishing in the state. Conditions can change quickly with snowmelt and rain, so staying current with the report is key before making the drive out.

This Rock Creek fly fishing report is updated regularly by our guides and staff to reflect current conditions, hatches, and techniques that are producing fish. Whether you're planning a wade trip or just checking in on conditions, this report will help you know what to expect on the water.

How's the Fishing?: 4/5

The fly fishing on Rock Creek has been good lately. With the warm weather, it's best best fishing during the first half of the day and slows down during the hot afternoon.

The dry fly fishing has been good in the morning. Terrestrials like Hoppers and ants have been good lately with some PMD's and Yellow Sallies in the mix

Single dry is often the way to go on Rock Creek this time of year, but tying a nymph dropper off the back can help produce when fishing is slow. The early morning streamer game has also been productive.
