Rock Creek Fishing Report

Rock Creek is one of the most well-known and productive trout streams in western Montana, offering classic freestone fly fishing in a smaller, more intimate setting than the larger rivers around Missoula. With its mix of pocket water, riffles, and runs, Rock Creek provides consistent opportunities throughout the year, though conditions can change quickly with weather, flows, and seasonal insect activity.

This Rock Creek fly fishing report is updated regularly by our guides and staff to reflect current conditions, hatches, and techniques that are producing fish. Whether you’re planning a day trip or keeping an eye on how the creek is fishing, this report will give you a clear idea of what to expect on the water.

How's the Fishing?: 3/5

Rock Creek has been good lately even with rising flows. Still not much to write home about for dry fly fishing, but the nymphing and streamer fishing has been really good recently.

The higher than normal flows is making fishing a little tougher than usual, but flows are starting to level off and we expect some better dry fly fishing in the next week if flows stabilize.

The warm weather next week should improve fishing. Focus your time on slower walking speed water this week with nymphs and streamers.

Fishing on Rock Creek should really pick up in the coming weeks. So far this spring, it's been mostly a subsurface game, but dry fly fishing should pick up as the weather warms up in early April.
