Clark Fork River Fishing Report

The Clark Fork River offers a wide range of fly fishing opportunities throughout the Missoula area, with a mix of slow, technical water and faster moving sections that fish well across different conditions. As a larger river system, the Clark Fork can be influenced by flows, weather patterns, and seasonal insect activity, making it important to stay up to date on current conditions.

This Clark Fork River fly fishing report is updated regularly by our guides and staff to reflect current conditions, hatches, and techniques that are producing fish. Whether you’re planning to fish in town or exploring stretches outside of Missoula, this report will help you understand what to expect on the water.

How's the Fishing?: 3/5

The Clark Fork has improved over the last few week before the flows bumped up again and should fish much better in the coming weeks if flows come down. We are expecting some precipitation over the next 24 hours, so we will see what that does to the river levels. We've been seeing a few Skwalas, Nemouras, March Browns and BWO's hatching over the last few weeks and those hatches should increase with the warmer weather coming.

For now, focus on fishing slower water like inside seams with nymphs and streamers.

What Hatches are Going?

Skwala, Nemoura, Capnia, BWO, March Brown

How's it going to be in a couple of weeks?

If the weather forecast holds, we might see another bump, followed by level or dropping flows. We will see just how much water we get in the coming days.

Seasonal Data Notice: These temperature gauges are operational from late spring through fall. If a graph shows a data not available warning, the sensor is likely blocked by ice or inactive for the winter season. Check back as temperatures warm up - the gauges will resume delivering live data automatically.
