The Clark Fork River is the largest river in Montana by volume and one of the most diverse fly fishing destinations in the Missoula area. Flowing through the heart of the city and beyond, it offers everything from technical tailwater-style fishing to big water streamer opportunities. Conditions on the Clark Fork can vary significantly by section and season, making it important to stay current with the report before heading out.

This Clark Fork River fly fishing report is updated regularly by our guides and staff to reflect current conditions, hatches, and techniques that are producing fish. Whether you're planning a float or a wade trip, this report will help you know what to expect on the water.

How's the Fishing?: 2/5

Like the rest of the rivers in the Missoula area, the Clark Fork flows bumped up dramatically with the rain. They're on their way down now, but this will be the slowest river in the area to come back around after the blowout.

There are two different stories here. The upper is clearing up faster, while the lower is going to take a while to clear up and become fishable again. We do expect the river to be fishable in the next week or two.

We were seeing salmonflies before the cool down and rain event, and we expect those to start hatching again this week as the weather warms and flows stabilize. A few golden stones have been kicking around too. We expect some great dry fly fishing towards the end of next week, weather depending. All in all, flows are coming down and fishing should be good in June.

What Hatches are Going?

Salmonflies, golden stones, green drakes, and yellow sallies.

How's it going to be in a couple weeks?

Flows are coming down and fishing should be good in June. Expect salmonflies, golden stones, and green drakes as the month progresses.
