Fishing Reports

The Report For: 5/13/2008
General Comments | | We are seeing a little lull in the runnoff right now in the upper reaches. It probably won't be enough to change the picture significantly on most of the local rivers but you might get a little fishing in the next couple of days before the next bump. With snowpack at 149 percent of average water content in the Bitterroot and 140 percent in the lower Clark Fork, we are going to be in runnoff conditions for a while this year. The current prediction is for flows to pick up for good starting toward the end of this week with peak flows in late May. |
BitterrootRiver Flows | | | On the drop for a couple of days. Clarity is not the big issue. Your challenge will be finding holding water in the higher flows. You have a two day or so window if you want to give it a shot. |
BlackfootRiver Flow Near Bonner | | | Holding at right around average flows for this time of year right around 3800 cfs. With water temps in the high 40s, you might find some fishing for a couple of days before the next bump. |
Clark ForkRiver Flows | | | On the drop. The upper river is holding steady around 2200 cfs after a couple of days of dropping conditions. You might see a little window of decent fishing in the upper river over the next couple of days. The lower river is on the drop and running around average flows for this time of year with high and off color conditions. You might see a small window before the next push. We'll see. |
MissouriRiver Flows | | | Great Mo conditions through the week. You can expect releases from the dam to continue to increase this week-- currently at 3860. The fishing is really picking up over there with lots of options. Good nymphing continues to be consistent. Persistent streamer fishing is taking some big fish. The dry fly fishing is getting good-- certainly not every fish in the river but enough to make it worth the effort-- with the opportunity to hunt heads from mid afternoon until dark. Its a BWO deal right now with caddis to follow shortly with the warm weather on tap into the weekend. You're looking at 60s Tues and Wed, 70s on Thursday and 80s through the weekend. |
Rock CreekRiver Flow Near Clinton | | | Running high but on the drop for the moment. Probably your best bet for good fishing before the next bump in flow. You can expect challenging wade fishing on the lower reaches with the higher water but plenty of clarity. The upper braided reaches will probably give you your best fishing. |
